Closing due to weather
What does weather have to do with anything?

Tornados and Severe Seasonal Storms

The safety of our patrons and staff are very important to us. The library staff is trained in safety procedures. During severe weather outbreaks, such as a Tornado Warning, staff will move patrons to the pre-determined safe-part of their library. All operations will cease until the "all-clear" is given. Remember, a Tornado Watch means the conditions are favorable for the formation of tornados.  A Tornado Warning means that a tornado has either been sighted in the immediate area, or indications of rotation in the clouds are cause for concern of formation of tornado activity.

Staff may decide to turn off all computers if severe weather with lightning is threatening. Staff is also authorized to stay with patrons at the time of closing if the weather is too severe to leave the building.

What if it is snowing or there is ice or a bad storm?

The safety of the patrons and library staff are of utmost importance. County roads can deteriorate quickly in snow, ice and fog, making it unsafe to travel -- especially at night.

The library will close if the Paulding County Sheriff has declared a Level Three emergency. However, the library director may choose to close the library before law enforcement declares a road emergency.

The library administration will make every effort to contact Paulding County's media outlets, WPAU 1640 AM Radio, and the Paulding County Progress and The West Bend News newspapers.

Closings will also be submitted to regional radio and television stations, but because those outlets are inundated with requests to post closings from all of NW Ohio and NE Indiana, the library's closing may not be announced.

Therefore, we encourage you to call the library at 419-399-2032 before you leave your home to make sure we are open.

Remember, most library materials are renewable over the phone. If you have any doubt about safe travel to the library, please stay home.  Your safety is important to us.  For more information call the library at 419-399-2032.
