FLASH!!! FLASH!!!
In late August
2003, Miss Drew moved out of the library and in with a loving family.
She wishes to send her purr-fect greetings to all her furry and non-furry
library friends... "I will miss you all... especially those of you who let
me ride the elevator, lay on your newspaper or on your lap. Thank
you for loving me as much as I loved you. Remember, always be kind
and gentle to your feline friends and read, read, read."
With love, Miss Drew
Miss Drew's History
On Friday,
October 13th of 2000, while cleaning up after a retirement party, the staff decided to leave the back door open to allow
in some of the fresh
autumn air breeze. That's when it happened. In waltzed this
long-legged, "super-model" cat who was paying no attention to the staff
members shouting cat calls of "here kitty kitty." She wandered
around as if she was looking for something. As
confidently and aloofly as she had entered, she left. She was so sweet. Friday the 13th would end up being a very lucky day for this lady.
Moving in
the kittens
The next thing we
knew, she was carrying her kittens into the staff room, one by one. Before
the day was out, the room had been transformed into a nursery, complete with
a variety of cat food, kitten chow, weaning formula, litter, and play
toys. Eventually, all of the kittens were adopted by staff members and by
our patrons. However, it was decided that the mama cat was going to stay
here in the library as a pet for our staff and patrons.
Naming the
kitty
Mama cat was renamed to Miss Drew Kitty, named after Drew
Carey who has donated a large sum of money to Ohio public libraries. Miss
Drew spends most of her days resting in a various of places. You can
find her in the children's department sleeping on the lady bug pillow, in
the puzzle boxes, or in the alcove relaxing on the wicker chairs.
Miss Drew
and the media
She has been interviewed by several newspapers, including the "Paulding Progress" from
Paulding,
Ohio, "The Crescent-News" from Defiance, Ohio, and "The Journal
Gazette" from Fort Wayne,
Indiana. She has even made her television debut
on station WPTA from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Miss Drew's Pastimes
On a recent visit to her doctor, it was suggested that Miss Drew
should reduce the amount of treats she eats and should exercise more
often. The doctor said that she was getting a little
"chubby." Her favorite pastimes include snoozing, eating,
dozing, snoozing and sleeping. She loves to ride the elevator with
unsuspecting patrons and is likely to find the center of the reading couch
to her liking for an afternoon nap.
