Paulding County Carnegie Library
Bookmobile
Established 2011

Before and After

History:

The bookmobile was purchased in November 2010 from a small library in SE Ohio. They could no longer afford to operate their beloved bookmobile due to shrinking state funding and no local levy support. The Paulding County Carnegie library received an incredible deal on the price and was able to invest in a professional "wrap" for the exterior.

Mission:

The Bookmobile is owned and operated by the Paulding County Carnegie Library to serve the rural areas of Paulding County and citizens of all ages who may not be able to readily drive to a branch library in the villages of Antwerp, Oakwood or Payne; or to the main historic Carnegie library in Paulding.

Team:

The bookmobile team includes Kathy Heffley, the manager of the operation and Tawnya English, the driver of this large bus. Both team members are great "people persons" and they will work hard to make sure your bookmobile visit is memorable. Their personalities teamed with their desire to provide great customer service, will  result in a strong bookmobile program for all citizens.

Collection:

The bookmobile is actually be a small branch library on wheels. All print materials that one would find at a branch library, may be found on the bookmobile. These includes popular reading and best-sellers; new movies, children's titles, J-Fiction and Non -Fiction. A popular Adult fiction and non- fiction collection will provide for delightful browsing. Recorded books on CD, PlayAways and a number of popular movies for all ages will round out the collection. Everyone will find something to interest them on the bookmobile. The unit also will carry a computer with Internet access so that patrons may check their e-mail accounts.

Schedule:

The schedule is subject to change without notice due to weather, traffic or mechanical difficulties.

 Service Route:

The bookmobile will be traveling to unserved areas of the county such as Scott, Latty, Haviland, Broughton, Briceton, Melrose, Mandale, Grover Hill, Junction, Charloe, 5-Span and Cecil, The rolling library will also stop at area nursing homes, assisted living facilities, afterschool programs, Head Start and pre-school centers. Additional stops will be added as needs are assessed.

The Graphic Wrap:

Graphically designed by Kelly Goyings and her team at Natural Design and Graphic (Paulding, Ohio) from ideas and visions from library director, Susan Pieper. Printed by Creative Sign Resources (New Haven, Indiana) What does the wrap represent? The front of the bus represents the fact that we are bringing books. First and foremost, our service is about books. The back of the bus represents the beautiful sunrises and sunsets we enjoy in Paulding County and that every day should begin and end in a book. The sides of the unit represent the bookmobile rolling through Paulding County, passing a number of landmarks: the round barn from NE Paulding County, the Bicentennial barn from Antwerp, the wind turbines from the SW part of the county and the rich farmlands from the SE and all of Paulding County. The children' pictured are primarily Paulding County kids. An owl-mascot can be found in four places on the bookmobile. Next time you visit the bookmobile, see if you can spot them all.
