Call to Order: Sue Derck called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.

 

Roll Call:  The following were present:  Board members: Leah Smith, Terry Wehrkamp, Sue Derck Susie Thrasher and Michelle Stahl. Lonnie Bostelman was not in attendance at the Board meeting as his term expired on November 30th.  Director Susan Hill, Assistant Director, Diana Coy and Wilma Mullins, Clerk-Treasurer were also present.

 

Minutes: There was a presentation and review of the November 2006 minutes. After two corrections, Susie Thrasher made a motion for approval. The second was by Leah Smith. Motion passed.

 

Financial / Clerk-Treasurer: Motion to pay bills (November Pay-X 10476-10550; Finance 12754-12815) was made by Terry Wehrkamp and seconded by Susie Thrasher. Motion carried.

 

Other Clerk Treasurer Business: Mrs. Mullins distributed the 2007 Employee Position and Wage Schedule.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Director’s Contract:  Terry Wehrkamp moved that the Director’s Contract be approved with the corrected language in item #5. Leah Smith seconded the motion. Motion passed.

 

Polaris Wireless:  Leah Smith moved to approve the installation of wireless service at the main library in January 2007 through a component of Polaris called Polaris Wireless Access Manager (WAM) at a cost of about $4,000. Terry Wehrkamp seconded the motion. Motion passed.

 

Paulding County Carnegie Library Foundation:  No update to report.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Personnel Matter: Director Hill had contacted the board in early December regarding the termination of Bill Murphy for violations of board-approved personnel policies. Terry Wehrkamp moved that the termination of Bill Murphy on December 7th be approved. Leah Smith seconded the motion. Motion carried in a unanimous affirmative roll call vote. Director Hill informed the board that Mr. Murphy had applied for unemployment compensation. She distributed the narrative she sent in response to his claim.

 

2007 Holidays: Leah Smith moved and Michelle Stahl seconded the motion to approve the following 2007 closings/holidays for the library system. Motion passed.

2007 Staff Development Days: Susie Thrasher moved and Terry Wehrkamp seconded the following two dates for the system to be closed for staff development. Motion passed.

                Friday, November 9th           Staff Development Day

 

Director’s Report:  Director Hill reported that there was a minor electrical fire in the property next door. Board member Wehrkamp requested a tour of the next-door building during the January Board meeting. Hill also reported that she has been asked to serve on a task force in January to address the direction of rural librarianship and the future goals of the Association of Small and Rural Libraries. This meeting will be in Clarion, Pennsylvania and will include representatives from WebJunction (a Gates Foundation initiative) educators and leaders from around the country.

 

Adjournment:  Susie Thrasher moved and Michelle Stahl seconded the motion to adjourn to the Christmas Party. The next Board meeting would be held on January 16, 2007 at the main library at 7:00 p.m.
